Child-Inclusive Consultations

Bringing the child’s voice into gentle focus.

My child consultations create a calm, sensory-safe space where school-aged and pre-school children are invited to explore their thoughts and feelings through gentle play, storytelling, and reflection.

I use quality, natural materials and sensory-safe toys chosen for their warmth, texture, and simplicity — inviting curiosity and calm rather than overstimulation. For younger children, this may involve symbolic play; for school-aged children, sessions gently support emerging reflection, meaning-making, and expression in ways that feel safe and age-appropriate.

These play-based tools allow children to communicate through story, pattern, and movement, rather than through direct questioning. Every element in the room — from the soft felt landscapes to the quiet colours — is designed to help children feel grounded, respected, and free to express themselves in their own way.

As a practitioner, I listen for what the child shows and expresses, rather than what they are asked to say. The child’s experiences are carefully interpreted and shared with parents to support their understanding of how conflict and decision-making affect their child, and to guide practical changes that reduce conflict and better support the child’s wellbeing.

My approach is informed by the Child-Inclusive Mediation model developed by psychologist Dr Jennifer McIntosh AM, integrating principles of safety, consent, and respect within a sensory-informed, developmentally responsive framework. Every meeting is invitational, transparent, and tailored to the child's age, communication style, and needs.

Every child’s voice is unique. My role is to ensure it is heard, understood, and thoughtfully reflected back to parents — safely, softly, and with care.

Child consultations are not counselling or therapy, and do not determine legal outcomes. Their purpose is to support parents to better understand their child’s experience and make child-informed decisions.

  • Offers clarity on how separation or conflict may be affecting each child.

  • Provides practical language and strategies to respond with empathy.

  • Helps parents make confident, informed decisions together.

  • Creates a shared sense of purpose — protecting what matters most.
