The Child-Centred Decision Lens

The Child-Centred Decision Lens is a downloadable PDF designed to support thoughtful, child-focused preparation before Family Dispute Resolution.

It provides a structured way to pause and consider how a proposed change may affect a child’s experience of stability, safety, and connection — before raising the issue in mediation.

The lens guides parents to reflect on:

  • how a proposal may affect a child’s routine, emotional load, and sense of belonging

  • what a child may need if a change were to proceed

  • whether a proposal is ready to be raised, and how it might best be framed

  • possible outcomes if a proposal is not raised, not agreed to, or accepted

The document is intended for private use only. There is no expectation that it be completed or shared.

Some parents use the Decision Lens to clarify proposals before mediation. Others find it helpful for deciding which conversations may benefit from further thought or reshaping first.
